Patient provides a description of symptoms and rates intensity on a scale of (1-10)
The physician carries out a physical examination of the extremities.
Continuous wave Doppler and duplex ultrasound imaging is performed to determine the origin of reflux and to map the Greater Saphenous Vein (GSV).
Transverse measurements of the Greater Saphenous Vein are made 2 - 3 centimeters below the Sapheno-Femoral Junction and along the course of the GSV.
Hard copy documentation of GSV diameter and reflux are obtained.
Note length of vein to be treated.
Photographs are taken of the leg.
The patient signs informed consent document.
If patient is anxious sedation can be given prior to the procedure (e.g. Xanax 0.5 mg PO 1 hour prior to procedure.)
Patients with thrombus in the vein segment
to be treated
Patients with an aneurysmal section in
the vein segment to be treated
Patients with peripheral arterial disease
as determined by an Ankle-Brachial Index <
